Why RUMvision isn’t like any other RUM solution

Summary: With many RUM solutions available, the biggest challenge for us was to bring something new to the market. Fortunately, experience also brings irritations and we started developing from there. What were we missing in RUM solutions that really shouldn't have been missing?

Why RUMvision isn’t like any other RUM solution

Some of the main differences

With the things mentioned above in mind, we created an accessible monitoring solution usable by every member of a team, without the need for comprehensive knowledge of any query language.

Keeping it simple and user friendly

Some tools require a fair amount of technical knowledge. In some cases, someone on your team might even need to take a course in a query language, i.e., MySQL.

RUMvision kept it simple so that everyone has access to the data and can use it.

We don’t have an expensive APM solution, nor is there a complex query language you need to learn. Experience usability like never before in a RUM solution!

Don’t worry, we do the math

With a lot of metrics to keep in mind, it can be overwhelming. Sometimes you just want to see how two points of data are doing compared to one another.
For some competitors, you can see the former and current positions. However, you still have to calculate specific percentage changes yourself. In our tooling, the percentual differences will be visible right away.

You decide the data that you get to see

Comparing data is very powerful. Not just with fixed data points, but with any point of data that you want to compare. From that point of view, we implemented a custom range.

We save 13 months of history, so you can make reports and comparisons to the year before and can start celebrating every success.

Want to store, use and analyze data for a longer period of time? Not an issue. And if you want to change the retention period for a domain, so your data storage is reduced? Every domain can be customized!

Besides data ranges, we came up with a dropdown where you can select what percentile you want to see. For example, Google uses the 75th percentile, but you also want to know how the 85th percentile is doing. Or even the 59th, we don’t know why you should do that necessarily, but the possibilities are there.

You won’t drown in information

For an SEO, product owner, or even a developer, data can be overwhelming. But every role within your agency wants to see different data and make conclusions based on that.

RUMvision provides you with the information you need to make the required improvements.

When, where, and why is something happening?

Let's forget SEO! Well, maybe not completely but in the end, we should optimize for real users too. We show which group is having pagespeed challenges when visiting your site. We do this by showing user, device, and server circumstances and conditions.

Of course, you want to know when your site starts performing worse than before, but that’s not the only thing that you want and need to know.
We are one of the first tools that give you advanced insights into where and why something is happening.

We added dimensions for better insights:

  • Have unique visitors simply increased?
  • Or new campaigns and thus query strings, that one forgot to add to the server-side caching rules?
  • More people on low-end devices or below average device memory?

All those things above (and many more) become visible with our dimensions (SUX), which competitors don't have.

Don’t track more than what you need

Tracking more than what you need isn’t only confusing and overwhelming, but it also hurts the environment. A lot of RUM solutions measure every resource per pagehit, although those resources are static and won’t change until the next deployment.

It's not about how heavy a resource is, it's about how it's used, so an overview or analysis of the resources is just noise in your monitoring/oversight and makes it less scannable.

All those extra monitoring tasks also create more JavaScript to execute, which increases the chance of impacting your performance, where we aim to stay small in terms of our snippet.

The browser exposes a lot of performance data, but just because the data is available does not necessarily mean you should record it and send it to your analytics servers.

With a lot of experience in the field, we started creating a tool, that in our opinion is more complete than any other tool has ever been. Of course, some tools are more specialized in other ways. When it comes to monitoring the real user experiences of your website/webshop, you're at the right address with RUMvision.

We've put a lot of focus on the usability of the tool so that every role within your agency can use RUMvision to its full potential.
