--- title: "Introduction (Help Center / Settings / Custom timing)" ai_context: "Use this article for questions about where Custom Timing is configured in RUMvision, how to create or edit Custom Timing entries, which domains a Custom Timing applies to, and how Custom Timing tracking is enabled or disabled per domain. It explains that Custom Timing is managed from the organisation-level settings, that individual Custom Timing entries can be assigned to selected domains, and that the **Track Timing** feature must be enabled in each domain's Developer settings before data is collected. Relevant for questions about finding Custom Timing settings, opening the Custom Timings overview, enabling or disabling all custom timing tracking for a domain, why a domain is greyed out in the Custom Timing overview, activating Custom Timing for a domain, domain assignment, organisation settings, Developer settings, Features, Track Timing, custom timing configuration and custom timing availability. It also gives a high-level overview of the supported Custom Timing categories, including Server Timing, Element Timing, Container Timing, User Timing and Custom Dimensions, and explains that some types become metrics while Custom Dimensions become dimensions and filters. Use the dedicated type-specific articles for implementation details about Server-Timing, Element Timing, Container Timing, User Timing or Custom Dimensions.\n" canonical: "https://www.rumvision.com/help-center/settings/custom-performance-timing/introduction/" --- Breadcrumbs: [Home](https://www.rumvision.com/?format=md) > [Help Center](https://www.rumvision.com/help-center/?format=md) > [Settings](https://www.rumvision.com/help-center/settings/?format=md) > [Custom timing](https://www.rumvision.com/help-center/settings/custom-performance-timing/?format=md) > Introduction # Introduction When you are ready to get more out of your monitoring, you can start with custom timing, by creating one (or multiple) of the following: - [Server Timing](https://www.rumvision.com/help-center/settings/custom-performance-timing/server-timing/?format=md); - [Element Timing](https://www.rumvision.com/help-center/settings/custom-performance-timing/element-timing/?format=md); - [Container Timing](https://www.rumvision.com/help-center/settings/custom-performance-timing/container-timing/?format=md); - [User Timing](https://www.rumvision.com/help-center/settings/custom-performance-timing/user-timing/?format=md); - [Custom Dimension](https://www.rumvision.com/help-center/settings/custom-performance-timing/custom-dimension/?format=md). > Be sure to share your tech stack to benefit from our integrated options ## Integrated options Based on your [tech stack characteristics](https://www.rumvision.com/help-center/settings/domain/techstack/?format=md) and enabling additional tracking dimensions we will already track dimensions per CMS, CDN etc out of the box. For example: - [Shopify is (unofficially) exposing server information](https://www.rumvision.com/help-center/settings/server-timing/shopify/?format=md) via Server-Timing. You can collect and benefit from this as well, for example to get to the root of TTFB challenges; - CDNs, hosting (observability) or plugin partners are often exposing information via Server-Timing. ## Custom timing types You can manually add and configure custom timings. To do this: 1. Go to your [Organisation level](https://www.rumvision.com/help-center/settings/organisation/introduction/?format=md) settings as that's where Custom timing lives. 2. Click on Custom timings in de left sidebar 3. From there, you can either edit or create custom timing. Once you created a custom timing, its type can no longer be changed to prevent type mixture in your dataset. Most will automatically become available as metrics while others (mainly custom dimenions) will become available as dimensions and thus filters. ## Enabling and disabling When creating or editing a custom timing, you need to select the domain names where you would want to activate a custom timing. Additionally, you need to enable **Track Timing** per domain via its **Developer settings** in the [Features section](https://www.rumvision.com/help-center/settings/domain/features/?format=md). This also means that you can disable all custom timing tracking per domain at any time at once. When Track Timing is not enabled for a domain, that domain will be greyed out in the Custom timing overview table and a popover will alert you about this on hover. Clicking on that domain will then directly take you to the Feature section of that domain.
