RUMvision MCP in ChatGPT
This article explains how to connect the RUMvision MCP to ChatGPT that allows you to ask questions about your real-user performance data directly from ChatGPT.
Enabled MCP access in RUMvision before going through these steps. Read our introduction if you're new to MCP.
Requirements
To use the RUMvision MCP in ChatGPT, you need:

Connecting the RUMvision MCP
Follow these steps to add the RUMvision MCP to ChatGPT.
Step 0: Log in to ChatGPT
Before performing the steps below, be sure you are logged in to your ChatGPT where you want to communicate with your RUMvision data.
Step 1: Enable developer mode
If developer mode is available for your account, enable it first.
To reach this section, click on your ChatGPT profile button (bottom left), go to "Settings". A popup will then appear, select "Plugins". Over there, select "Developer mode".
A new section appears on the right. Enable the "Developer mode" switch/checkbox on the following page. This checkbox should then become blue.
For some workspaces, this needs to be enabled by an admin or owner before individual users can create or test custom MCP apps.
Step 2: Go to plugins
Go to your ChatGPT plugins page, to be found at https://chatgpt.com/plugins.
You're also able to reach that page via similar steps as above:
- click on your ChatGPT profile button (bottom left),
- go to "Settings".
- A popup will then appear, select "Plugins".
- Over there, select "Browse plugins"
This will take you to the above URL.
Step 3: Create new plugin
Once you reached https://chatgpt.com/plugins, you should then see a screen similar to the following. Over there, click the add icon (plus-sign) at the top right, next to the "Search plugins" search bar.
You will be taken to a new form where you will need to fill in details of the app that you are going to set up.
We've listed the information to fill in in the Connector details section, including a OAuth details and favicon to download. Once filled-in, the form should look similar to the one in the screenshot below:
Custom MCP risk
As our RUMvision MCP is not offered through the ChatGPT app store and should be added manually, it is considered a "Custom MCP". RUMvision data does not contain personal data and tools won't expose personal nor sensitive information. Additionally, there are no RUMvision MCP tools to destroy data.

As a result, there is no data risk aside from exposing RUM data. That's why we consider it safe to check the "I understand and want to continue" checkbox.
Step 4: Sign in
You will need to authorize the ChatGPT connection at RUMvision. After clicking the "Create" button in the ChatGPT form, you'll be prompted with a new screen in ChatGPT explaining this process:
The "Sign in with RUMvision MCP" button will take you to a page within the RUMvision environment. If you're logged in already, you only need to authorize on behalf of yourself. The RUMvision screen looks as following:
You will need to select the "I trust this address with all my organisation data" (or similar) checkbox before being able to proceed via the "Authorize" button.
Step 5: Review
After authorizing, you will be redirected to ChatGPT, that will show you a confirmation page of the app that was just created. You'll see several details regarding the app's creation date and other information. That page should look similar to the following screenshot:
Using the top right button, you can change the name or description of the app at any time.
You can also disconnect the RUMvision MCP at any time for other (non-admin) ChatGPT users. If you're looking to disconnect the RUMvision MCP for other API agents and MCP clients, please read the Revoke connections section.
Querying RUMvision data
To start querying and diagnosing RUM data of domains, you will need to let ChatGPT know that you want to use the RUMvision MCP. You can achieve this in various ways:
- Select the RUMvision MCP from the dropdown list so that ChatGPT knows what its source should be
- Starting your conversation with @rum and then select the RUMvision MCP app
- Or, when asking your question, tell the AI agent to use the RUMvision MCP to fetch information.
